Montana Wilderness Fly Fishing

On any of our trips into the Montana wilderness, you'll be able to enjoy superb fly fishing with professional Montana Fly Fishing guides and outfitters in the high country streams, rivers and lakes. The Bob Marshall, Scapegoat and Great Bear Wilderness Areas are, quite simply, a Montana fishing paradise.

Montana has some of the finest westslope Cutthroat Trout (our native fish) fishing in the lower 48. In addition, depending on location, you may find Rainbow, Brook Trout, Eastern Brook Trout, Bull Trout, Dolly Varden and Arctic Grayling. Catch-and-release fishing is recommended by our Montana outfitters and guides. This is ideal MT fly fishing country, though some fishermen bring spinning or combination spin/fly rods.

Our Montana fly fishing guides and outfitters recommend that any type of rod you choose to bring should preferably break down into 3' or less sections and be encased in a hard case of either plastic or aluminum for easy packing without breakage.

MT Fishing licenses are sold in two-day groups, or by the season. Check trip itinerary for fishing days. Our non-resident Montana fishing license is available at area sporting good stores, fishing shops and the Blackfoot Angler in Ovando, MT.
Here's what our guides and outfitters suggest:

• Rod: Light to Medium action 7 1/2'-9'; 4, 5 or 6 weight for fly rods
  
  
• Line: 6-8# mono for spinning gear; 4, 5, or 6 floating line - weight forward or double taper
  
  
• Leader: 9'-4 "x" or 5 "x" tapered leader.
